Love, Oceana
The inspiration behind this piece was from the first episode of the Little Mermaid TV show that premiered in the 90s. This episode was the only episode my mom had recorded for me on a VHS tape and I remember rewatching it repeatedly because of how much I loved it. Orcas are my favorite animals and they were the inspiration behind my thesis project; Orcadescent. This illustration is very personal to me as it connects back to my love for these creatures, the little mermaid episode, and my namesake (my name is the word for Mermaid in Spanish). This illustration was also modified and will be placed on to my graduation cap. Love, Oceana was illustrated in the Procreate app. The title of this piece is also a hint to what my series of graphic novels will spell out. My hopes for this piece is that it reminds people that the ocean is beautiful place and all of its creatures matter.
